Sound the trumpets! New brass syllabus launches September 2025
London College of Music Examinations (LCME) is delighted to announce the launch of our new Trumpet, Cornet & Flugelhorn syllabus and handbooks, available from 1 September 2025.
Designed with both students and teachers in mind, this comprehensive update reflects our commitment to inclusive, established, academically connected, and forward-thinking music education.
As the only British exam board owned by a university, the University of West London, we've drawn on our academic expertise to create a syllabus that meets the needs of today's brass players. The new materials feature an engaging repertoire spanning classical to contemporary works, with 24 new selections per grade and at least 9 included in each handbook.
For the first time, our handbooks will be available in both physical and digital formats, making quality brass education more accessible than ever. These all-in-one resources include all the pieces, technical exercises, sample tests and required materials to take the exam, along with valuable composer notes and performance tips.
The syllabus covers a complete learning journey from Steps 1 & 2, with newly composed, fun and engaging material for beginners, through to Grade 8. Our updated technical work and improved assessment criteria align with modern teaching and performance standards, providing a clear framework for development.
The new Trumpet, Cornet & Flugelhorn handbooks will be available from Musicroom and all usual retailers from 1 September 2025.
